This is the middle of Makahiki – A Season of Peace. Here is an old group photo at Waiawa Correctional. Please pray for all the initiatives of Prisons and Criminal Justice Reform underway, that justice and mercy would be for all! In the first row seated there are three Wahine Episcopalians, then Bumpy Kanahele & Brandon Makaawa, and a brother from Waimanalo!

Makahiki preparations at Halawa Correctional years ago, here a photo of the paahao practicing, ai ha’a a low stance hula. There are at least 12 ai ha’a that have been developed and practiced in prisons abroad and in Hawaii related to Makahiki. With the shut-downs of prison facilities, many chapel and culture based programs such as Makahiki have been eliminated due to poor staffing and many changes.
Look’s like ai ha’aa practice, in the misty rain, UMC Pastor Puila Alialima and Bahai Lee Lewis on the Hillside at Halawa Correctional during the Season of Lent Vigil last year.
