Keaau is a well known place for gathering pa’akai (salt) in the depressions and pools, some unique limu. Frequent shark sightings and occasional attacks in this area, caution and pule required.
Towards Makua & Kaena we see the Naupaka above but also many other common native plants, shrubs, and trees, in this area.

The Naupaka, a native Hawaiian shrub, is as rich in botanical interest as it is in folklore. This unique plant not only captivates with its beauty but also tells a story of love, separation, and longing that resonates deeply in Hawaiian culture.
