An Iranian Muslim cleric has called on Pope Leo XIV to speak for peace amid rising tensions involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
Ayatollah Seyyed Mostafa Mohaghegh Damad urged Pope Leo XIV to remind the President of the United States of the teachings of Jesus Christ and to encourage restraint so that “human blood may no longer be shed on the earth.”
Pope XIV called on the world’s religions…must place a common responsibility to protect human dignity and preserve peace….
The Pope also recalled that the teachings of Jesus on mercy, forgiveness, and love of neighbor should guide the decisions of those in power. He encouraged all parties to pursue dialogue and diplomacy rather than military confrontation.
