Morning Prayers - September 26, 2026 - St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church

Two daughters of Fr. Gifford who served St. Stephen’s visiting St. Stephen’s last Sunday! The Reverend Gerald G. Gifford served as a priest at St.Stephen’s Episcopal Mission in Wahiawa, Hawaii, beginning in July 1954. I was born in Wahiawa August 1954, and his daughter Roxane above in the green was born in 1956 in Wahiawa.

His daughter Carrie Lee to the left is a member of Emmanuel married to the son of Bishop Browning. I told her I worked on a project with Presiding Bishop Browning, and he came to Kaua’i to meet with during a conference , we worked on a National Council of Churches Hawaiian Resolution titled Stolen Nation which he presented in the Annual General Assembly of 64 Denominations in 1994 that was approved!

I served at Kaumakapili Church during the years when Fr. Gifford was next door at St. Elizabeth. We shared the podium and altar a few times in joint services and events.

A great visit with the daughters of Fr. Gifford, who was also the officiant who married Martha Peterson in the center of photo above.

It is interesting to note that he was confirmed in St. Andrews Cathedral in December, 1944. Having served in the Pacific area for three years during World War II he came to Hawaii he felt that this was the field in which he wished to serve.
He was from Columbus, Ohio.

Here is Josiah at the Sanctuary lanai inspecting the ceiling cracks, chipping old paint and applying a few coats of primer and paint. This is a concrete lanai roof that will require future repair of cracks and water leaks and moisture. 9.22.26

Had a great Resource Fair this past Thursday at the Halawa Correctional Facility. It was held in the Gym and hundreds of men anticipating release and reentry were able to meet reentry program representatives, related to health, housing, employment, and reentry BacPacs! Mahalo to Carolyn Morinishi for attending on behalf of the Prison Ministry Project TECH.
